She guides her clients through the confusing and often emotional financial and legal decisions involved in planning for the future by creating plans that fulfill their goals. Her experience includes special needs trusts, family protection, incapacity planning, wealth preservation and planning strategies for unmarried couples and divorced individuals. Originally from the Chicago-land area, Tara H. Cheever attended the University of Illinois and earned a Bachelor of Science with High Honors. She was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society for scholastic excellence in achieving the top 10% of the College of Business Administration. Upon graduation, she moved to San Diego to attend Thomas Jefferson School of Law, earning a Juris Doctor and graduating Cum Laude in 2006. While at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Tara received a Fellowship with the Center for Law, Technology and Communications for academic excellence and earned two American Jurisprudence Awards for the highest grade in her class in the subjects Community Property and Legal Writing. Additionally, she was invited into Honors Legal Writing II and the Moot Court Society. While in law school, Tara served as a Certified Law Clerk with theCalifornia Department of Justice, Attorney General’s Office where she wrote multiple appellate briefs and argued in front of all three divisions of the Fourth District on behalf of the State. Tara served the Attorney General’s office for over one year and was the first intern to be invited to serve in that capacity beyond the standard three month program. After graduating Cum Laude, she immediately passed the California Bar Exam and accepted a position as a Deputy City Attorney with the City of Escondido, practicing with distinction for nearly 3 years. Having the passion to work with individuals, families and business owners in a collaborative and advisory capacity led her to launch Cheever Law, APC in 2009 where she continues to serve her clients by protecting their personal and business assets. Tara has chosen to concentrate on the Trusts & Estates area because she finds fulfillment in helping families have the peace of mind knowing their futures are secure.
Tara is a member of WealthCounsel, LLC, a national organization of Trust and Estate attorneys and other legal, tax and business professionals who maintain the highest level of knowledge and expertise through collaboration and continuing their education on advanced and sophisticated estate planning techniques for individuals and families. She is also a member of the California State Bar, the California Bureau of Real Estate, ProVisors, Trusted Advisors and the San Diego County Bar Association. Tara is involved in community service, donates to charitable organizations and has volunteered with the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program. She is very well connected in the legal community in the area and strives to serve her clients in a holistic approach by referring in other advisors and professionals should the client need outside services. She is passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and spending time with her rescued Maltipoo Leo.
